About College

स्वo श्री जयदत्त वैला स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी, राजकीय स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय, रानीखेत, अल्मोड़ा (उत्तराखण्ड) started its functioning in the year 1973 with a small settlement in lush green medows of Ranikhet, a hill station and cantonment town in Almora district. Ranikhet is the regimental centre for Kumaon Regiment (KRC) and Naga Regiment currently. Government Post Graduate College, Ranikhet was founded by the Uttar Pradesh Government with just one Bachelor of Arts course. Since then, the college has gone through many changes and developments and is now a multi-discipline College having all the major subjects in Arts, Science and Commerce to meet the requirements of the youth of this region.
After the acquisition of land, the college was subsequently relocated to its current location in Chiliyanaula. Located at an altitude of around 1750 meters in the Peaceful valley and away from the main city provide the best atmosphere for studies.

The college has a repute of providing good quality education in various disciplines since its inception, catering to the need of the masses for higher education, the college has played a pivotal role in shaping up the future of the students around this region, the college has been surrounded mainly by the rural areas. It is accredited from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with B grade in 2012 and it is affiliated to Soban Singh Jeena university, Almora. Recently many self-finance and professional courses has been started in the College, The College also has a regional office and educational study centre of Uttarakhand Open University.
Looking at the importance of better-quality education in the world as a global village, there are around 17 Bachelor level courses and 14 PG level courses that are currently being offered by the college. The Bachelors level program is a three-year degree programme divided into 6 semesters; and the Masters level program is for 2 years divided into 4 semesters. All the courses offered are being taught in a bilingual mode (English and Hindi).
The College has sufficient faculties for each department and almost all the posts are filled in every department with highly qualified teachers catering to the need of all the students to the best of their abilities. Recently the College has also taken a big leap forward and has adopted the New Education Policy 2020 in coherence with the vision of policy makers to impart quality education through all round development of the students.
